The Hidden Talisman, 1928 | From the Vaults

This ghostly romance tells the story of two young lovers in medieval France. Before departing for war, Thibaud leaves a talisman with Bertrade and asks her to guard it; centuries later, she searches the Cloisters to recover the talisman and reunite with Thibaud. Atmospheric and haunting, this short film offers a rare glimpse of the original Cloisters, established by George Grey Barnard in 1914. The Met Cloisters opened in its current location in 1938. As part of The Met’s 150th anniversary in 2020, each month we will release three to four films from the Museum’s extensive moving-image archive, which comprises over 1,500 films, both made and collected by the Museum, from the 1920s onward.
