Primary Schools Rugby 7s Tournament

TE WHARAU won the boys’ section and Manutuke, the girls’, at the 2016 Lone Star Primary Schools Sevens at Rugby Park. Eight boys’ teams and seven girls’ teams took part. http://www.gisborneherald.co.nz   / gisborneherald      / gisborneherald   Schools in the boys’ section were Awapuni, Central, Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Nga Uri a Maui, Manutuke, Te Hapara, Te Wharau, Hatea a Rangi (Tokomaru Bay) and Waikirikiri.Schools represented in the girls’ section were Awapuni, Central, TKKM o Nga Uri a Maui, Manutuke, Mangapapa, Te Hapara and Waikirikiri.With all teams playing each other once, the winner was decided by who had the most points at the end of round-robin play. Some great running rugby was played, and some big tackles were made. Players of the tournament were Dante Hihi of Te Wharau for the boys, and Alizay Grant of Manutuke for the girls. Asked if they wanted more of these types of events, the players said yes. The girls said they loved being able to play in a grade that was just for them.
