Repeat TAVR Outcomes: Promising Results for Selected Patients with Failed TAVR

In this insightful interview, investigator, Prof Raj R Makkar (Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute, US) joins us to discuss the outcomes of repeat transcatheter aortic valve replacement with balloon-expandable valves. Prof Makkar and his team used the Society of Thoracic Surgeons/American College of Cardiology Transcatheter Valve Therapy Registry to address a series of questions regarding the safety and efficacy of redo-TAVR with balloon-expandable transcatheter heart valves for failed transcatheter aortic valves in the real-world national STS/ACC TVT Registry (Edwards Lifesciences). Redo-TAVR using balloon-expandable valves successfully resolved issues from the initial TAVR procedure, resulting in low procedural complications and similar mortality and stroke rates as patients receiving TAVR for native aortic valve stenosis.
