What's new with California High Speed Rail construction in California and learning more about the CAHSR Initial Operating Segment that is planned to operate from Bakersfield, California through Fresno by 2033. In May of 2024 I drove the entire approximately 500 mile California High Speed Rail Phase 1 route from Anaheim to San Francisco to celebrate 10,000 subscribers. Since then I've decided to make this an annual event until CAHSR is finished or I am. As a result, I went back on the road in May of 2025 to check out CAHSR again and document changes over the last year. Even though construction is only presently active in California's San Joaquin Valley right now, there have been developments that affect the entire project. Eventually I will published 4 videos covering the subject, but in this one we're going to cover Bakersfield, Shafter, Wasco, Corcoran, Hanford, Fresno, Madera, and Merced from the ground and in the air in glorious 4K. And when I have a chance, I'll compare what I saw at the same spots last year. You've seen driving videos. Come on inside and let's explore California High Speed Rail together! California High Speed Rail is project to build an 800 mile high speed rail system in the American state of California. It is meant to be built in two phases. The purpose of Phase 1 is to connect San Francisco, Los Angeles, and the two largest metropolitan areas in the state, as well as Anaheim and Orange County. Phase 2 would connect to Sacramento in the north and San Diego via the Inland Empire in the south. If completed, this would connect the 8 largest metro areas in the state, totaling over 32 million people. The project is behind schedule, way over budget, and frankly in big, big trouble. It makes for a dramatic story, but its also at the center of the discussion around high speed rail in the U.S. as well as our flagging ability to build and maintain necessary infrastructure.
