Ahmad Khalefa has been tirelessly committed to defending the rights of Palestinians in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territory. On October 19, 2023, he was arrested in Umm al-Fahm, northern Israel, during a protest against military operations in the occupied Gaza Strip and subsequently charged with "incitement to terrorism" and "identification with a terrorist organization" under Article 24 of the 2016 Israeli Anti-Terrorism Law.
