We mark the first anniversary of the death of Alfred Brendel on 17 June. Alfred Brendel was one of the great Liszt interpreters of his generation. Watch him perform Liszt’s monumental 'Après une lecture du Dante. Fantasia quasi Sonata' from the composer’s 'Années de pèlerinage', Deuxième Année (Italie). The piece is part of Brendel's acclaimed presentation of the first two volumes of Années de pèlerinage, recorded in London’s Middle Temple Hall in 1986. In this solo recital, Brendel brings Liszt’s visionary musical landscapes to life, from poetic reflections on Italy to the dramatic world of Dante’s Inferno.
