First Frame — teaching the AI tools and the film craft together | OpenAI Build Week

First Frame turns one idea into a film you could actually make — and teaches you why every choice in it works. Everyone can make video with AI now. Almost nobody knows how. Film students watch the tools they trained on get replaced faster than they can learn new ones. People who never studied film type a sentence, get four seconds that mean nothing, and quit. Neither problem is solved by a better model: one group needs the toolchain explained, the other needs the craft explained, and almost every product teaches one and ignores the other. First Frame teaches both. WHAT'S IN IT Concept Lab — your idea becomes a five-act blueprint: acts, shots, durations, camera and lighting direction, and an image and video prompt for every shot The Creator's Room — a five-role AI crew (Director, Writer, Cinematographer, Editor, Test Audience) critiques the plan, cites the craft principle behind each note, applies concrete before/after revisions, and re-scores the film Film School — 111 craft concepts, each taught twice: once for traditional filmmaking, once for AI video, with honest notes on where the AI route breaks AI Tools — 53 tools catalogued around what they actually cost and whether you may use the output commercially Showcase — real AI films by credited creators, each shown with the recipe that made it Three tracks — for children, adult beginners, and film and media students HOW IT WAS BUILT Built solo with Codex, driven by GPT-5.6. Two agentic model passes: one generates the blueprint under a strict JSON schema, a second critiques it as a crew. Craft citations are constrained to an allowlist of 111 IDs and anything the model invents is dropped server-side, so the system cannot fabricate evidence. Self-scoring is capped so it cannot inflate its own grade. Six Node test suites run in CI. No build step, no runtime dependencies. I asked Codex to audit its own work the way a senior engineer would. It found a cross-site scripting bug in my code and a caching mistake that was silently hiding an entire section of the site from returning visitors. I had found neither.
