Benue Attacks: Governor Alia Visits Victims in Otukpo | 500 Feared Dead in Rohingya Boat Tragedy
Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has visited Otukpo Local Government Area following recent attacks allegedly carried out by suspected armed herders. The governor met with the Och’Idoma, discussed the security situation with community leaders and visited survivors receiving treatment at the General Hospital, assuring residents of efforts to restore peace and improve security. The United Nations has also raised concerns over a major migration tragedy involving Rohingya refugees, with more than 500 people feared dead after two boats reportedly capsized off Myanmar’s coast. The UN refugee agency and the International Organisation for Migration say the vessels carried passengers from conflict-affected Rakhine State and refugee camps in Bangladesh, as calls grow for stronger rescue operations and action against human trafficking networks.
