Episode:- 1    • Delhi to Etawah Yamuna Expressway & Agra -...   The Kali Devi Temple, located in the town of Lakhna in Etawah district, holds special significance. It was established in 1857. It is worth noting that 1857 holds significant importance in the freedom movement. The temple is approximately 400 feet long and 200 feet wide. A special feature of this Devi temple is that right next to it is the Kacha Thana (sacred shrine) of Syed Baba. This is not only a center of devotion for Muslims, but also a center of equal faith for Hindus, both for the Goddess and for Baba. Thousands of people visit the Kalka Devi Temple in Lakhna for two fairs a year: one on Chaitra Sudhi Purnima and the other during the Navratri of Kwar. People from faraway lands come to make their wishes and, upon their fulfillment, offer flags and bells. It is believed that this temple was built by Rajarao Jaswant Singh. It is said that the king regularly crossed the Yamuna River to visit the Devi temple located in Ghar. One day, due to the high current in the Yamuna, even the boatmen declared it unsafe to cross by boat. The king became disheartened and sat under the shade of a tree, contemplating. Suddenly, a divine fire ignited, and Raja Jaswant Singh began construction of the Devi temple at the same location. After installing the Devi temple next to Syed Baba, he decided to establish another Devi temple, but the king passed away before this could happen. The idol commissioned for the installation is kept in an upstairs room, worshipped by his family. Within the temple complex is Syed Baba's tomb, where offerings of chadar and cowdung sweets are made. The offerings are made by Muslim attendants. It is believed that Mahamaya does not grant wishes unless Syed Baba receives an offering. The temple has been maintained by the Lakhna royal family. Dalit priests have been performing puja at this temple for years. Women from the Dalit and Kori castes have been performing the duties of offering greetings and playing the dholak. Similarly, generations of Dude Khan and Ghaffar Khan have been praying at Syed Baba's shrine. The people of the district and surrounding districts have held as much faith in this temple as the dacoits. In the past, many notorious dacoits managed to hoist their flags while evading the police. The Goddess's grace was such that even the police's extensive blockade could not harm them.
