Dr. Hook - When You're In Love With A Beautiful Woman (1979)• TopPop

Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show (shortened to Dr. Hook in 1975) was an American rock band, formed in Union City, New Jersey in 1968., The original lineup consisted of Ray Sawyer (born February 1, 1937 – died December 31, 2018), Dennis Locorriere (born June 13, 1949 - died May 16, 2026), Billy Francis (born January 30, 1942 – died January 23, 2010), George Cummings (born 1946), Jance Garfat, and Popeye Phillips. Cummings, Sawyer and Francis had worked before together in a band called the Chocolate Papers. They played the southern, eastern, and mid-western United States before breaking up. Cummings, who moved to New Jersey with the plan of forming a new band, brought Sawyer to rejoin him. They then took on future primary vocalist, New Jersey native Dennis Locorriere, initially as a bass player. Francis returned to be the new band's keyboardist. Dr. Hook’s international breakthrough however came with “Sylvia’s Mother” in 1972, which reached No. 5 in the United States, No. 2 in the UK, and Top 10 positions in several European countries and Australia. Other major worldwide hits included “The Cover of Rolling Stone” (US No. 6), “A Little Bit More” (US No. 11, UK No. 2), “Only Sixteen” (UK No. 2), “When You’re in Love with a Beautiful Woman” (US No. 6, UK No. 1), “Sharing the Night Together,” and “Sexy Eyes.” Their albums “Sloppy Seconds” (1972), “Bankrupt” (1975), “A Little Bit More” (1976), and “Pleasure & Pain” (1978) became international successes. The "Hook" name was inspired by Ray Sawyer's eyepatch and a reference to Captain Hook of the Peter Pan fairy tale, although, humorously, Captain Hook was neither a doctor nor wore an eyepatch. Ray Sawyer had lost his right eye in a near-fatal car crash in Oregon in 1967, and thereafter always wore an eyepatch. The eyepatch led some to believe that Sawyer was 'Dr. Hook'. When anyone asked the band which one of them was 'Dr Hook' they always directed everyone to the bus driver. Watch our great music videos ❯ https://goo.gl/feVLNN More TopPop?
