Railfanning Portland, Oregon - Episode 3: Slow Ride, UP MRVHK climbing the Graham Line
Reverse curves and a steady grade make for a challenge to any train heading up Sullivan Gulch on Union Pacific’s Graham Line in the middle of Portland, Oregon. You can physically see the slope in this section, I believe the grade is almost 3% at this location. This route is usually reserved for intermodal trains, at that, for those heading downhill (west). The engineer of this train is in no hurry this day either, with only the lead unit doing the pulling. This is of course what a brand new, adhesion controlled, AC traction locomotive is best suited for. Power for the train is ET44AH #2676, AC44CW #6476, ES44AC #7888, and ET44AH #2574.
