RC F4U-4 Corsair Behind the Controls: Flight Seventeen

The FMS ‘F4U 4 Corsair’ has a 1400mm wingspan, 4250KV 540 motor, 14 x 8 four blade propeller, 80A ESC, rotating retracts, split flaps, and I flew it on a 4S 5000mAh LiPo. Flight Review: I stepped onboard and got behind the controls. The goal was simple, fly it like a high energy air show style sortie and really push the performance side of the Corsair while still keeping things controlled and precise. Once airborne it felt solid straight away. I put it through fast passes, a few snap style manoeuvres and some inverted runs and it held line really well. The control response is clean and it feels locked in when you keep the speed up. The first landing was not my best, I was a bit slow on the rudder correction and it showed on touchdown. It needs proper coordination on approach because it is a heavier airframe and you cannot get behind it. For landing the key is coming in with a stable approach, using flaps early, keeping the nose controlled and managing throttle all the way to touchdown. It is not the easiest ground handler, but once you stay ahead of it the Corsair is very precise and rewarding to fly.
