Inside the Forgotten German Bunkers of Omaha Beach — What's Still There Today (NO AI!)

Most people who visit Omaha Beach never look up. Hidden in the trees above the sand, the concrete remains of Hitler's Atlantic Wall are still there — bunkers, casemates, observation posts, and gun emplacements that have been crumbling back into the hillside for eighty years, almost completely forgotten. I've spent a lot of time up there, and in this video I take you through the surviving German fortifications of the Omaha Beach sector. I'm a professional WW2 battlefield guide, and finding these positions — understanding what they were, who built them, and what the men inside them could see on the morning of D-Day — is some of the most important work I do on tour. I go through the Widerstandsnester (resistance nests) one by one — WN60, WN61, WN62, WN65, WN66, WN70, WN71, WN72 — identifying what's still standing, what's been lost, and comparing each position against the original German construction maps and wartime aerial photographs. The view from inside some of these positions is genuinely chilling. You can see exactly why certain sections of Omaha Beach were almost unsurvivable on 6th June 1944. If you're planning to visit Omaha Beach and want to know what's still accessible up in the bluffs, this video will show you exactly what's there and how to find it. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ CHAPTERS 00:00 Introduction — what's still up there 01:50 The Atlantic Wall at Omaha Beach explained 04:20 WN60 — the eastern anchor 07:10 The observation posts above the beach 10:30 Inside the surviving casemates 13:15 Then vs now — the view the Germans had 15:20 What these bunkers tell us about D-Day ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ WANT TO SEE THE BUNKERS IN PERSON? The surviving German positions above Omaha Beach aren't on the standard tourist route — most visitors never see them. On a tour with me I'll take you to the actual concrete, show you the original firing positions, and explain exactly what the German defenders had in front of them when the American landing craft appeared at dawn on D-Day. I'm a UK-based battlefield guide who travels to lead tours across the key WW2 sites of northwest Europe — from the D-Day beaches of Normandy in June 1944, through Operation Market Garden in the Netherlands in September 1944, into the Ardennes for the Battle of the Bulge that winter, and on into Germany in the spring of 1945.
