Essential Support Equipment for Breeding with Broody Hens (Brinsea Candler, Incubator & Brooder)
We use the natural broody tendencies of our Buff Orpington chickens to incubate, hatch and raise chicks. The advantage with broody hens is once hatched they are amazing at raising chicks to maturity BUT during incubation and hatching broody hens don't always behave in a textbook way. When this happens it's essential to have some back-up equipment to ensure that the eggs and potentially any hatching or newly hatched chicks survive. Over the years we have successfully used Brinsea equipment to keep partially incubated eggs alive to full term and to save many chicks who otherwise would have died. In this video we take you through the 3 pieces of Brinsea equipment that we use, explain what they are, how we use them and why we bought Brinsea products to begin with. Brinsea have supplied new equipment for this video but we are long-term users of Brinsea equipment with our first purchase years ago being the Ovation 28 Advance Incubator - a great bit of kit!
