BLONDIE Ring Of Fire

Arguably the hottest band in the world in 1980, Blondie were at the peak of their powers and chart apex when the movie 'Roadie' was released in the middle of that year. The music in this post was from that film's soundtrack. Blondie's follow up to the worldwide smash 'Parallel Lines' - the cleverly titled 'Eat To The Beat', dominated the album charts for that first year of the 1980's and several singles were issued including 'Atomic', and 'Dreaming'. But it was the itinerant single 'Call Me' from the soundtrack to the Richard Gere hit 'American Gigolo' - the pulsating 'Call Me' that provided the band's biggest success in America - reaching #1 and becoming the year's best selling single there. A further long player 'Auto American' would be released towards the end of that halcyon year and would generate two further smash hit singles 'The Tide Is High' and Rapture' - keeping the group on the world's charts well into 1981. Debbie Harry would release her first solo album and single that year too. But Blondie would call it quits in 1982 for many a year until some much publicised and welcome comebacks in the late 90's and early 00's. The soundtrack for 'Roadie' was much better received than the film itself, and Blondie's cover of the Johnny Cash classic is indeed one of the highlights. 40 years since 'Roadie' and 'Ring Of Fire'.
