Train Simulator Classic: HMTC Tour The Highmoor Merlin Explorer featuring LNER Thompson A1/1 60113

Hello and welcome everyone to another video on the channel. Myself and Conor did a shared footplate of HMTCs (13A universe) Highmoor Merlin Explorer. Starting from leicester and stopping at Derby for a booked stop. Using LNER Thompson A1/1 60113 "Great Northern" Quite a good run this. Information on A1/1 60113: The LNER Class A1/1 was a single 4-6-2 "Pacific" express passenger locomotive rebuilt in 1945 from Gresley's original A1, No. 4470 Great Northern, by Edward Thompson — intended as a prototype for a new Pacific design improving upon the A4. Thompson's design discarded the conjugated valve gear and instead fitted three separate sets of Walschaerts valve gear, one for each cylinder, with an A4-type boiler and largely new frames. The choice to rebuild Great Northern specifically — the very first Gresley Pacific — was hugely controversial; O.S. Nock called it "the most disappointing and tactless act in his short and stormy career as CME," with many believing Thompson's personal animosity toward Gresley's legacy influenced the decision. Despite the controversy, 60113 actually achieved excellent availability and became the highest-mileage Pacific on the LNER, recording annual figures that matched the best Gresley A4s. It was withdrawn on 19 November 1962 with a badly worn middle cylinder and broken up at Doncaster Works, with an attempt to save it from scrapping proving unsuccessful. Caledonia works A1/1: The Caledonia Works LNER Class A1/1 is priced at £19.99 and comes in at 1.29GB in size. It's a very feature-rich pack — highlights include authentic and immersive sounds from Steam Sounds Supreme, stunning fire and dynamic smoke particles, and the SimNations Locomotion 2.0 script, which brings realistic regulator and steam chest simulation, realistic adhesion with dynamic wheelslip scripting across all weather and seasonal conditions, and a lump firing simulation with a custom auto-fireman. There are two driving modes — Advanced and Simple — catering to both seasoned sim drivers and newcomers, plus a Performance Mode Pro for less powerful PCs. Other nice touches include period-accurate LNER lamps and discs, era-appropriate headboards, a scripted waterscoop, customisable lamp arrangements for both the locomotive and tender, and gauge oscillation at speed. Given it's the only example of the class ever built in real life, it's a genuinely rare and interesting subject for Caledonia Works to have tackled — and a great addition to any LNER collection in Train Simulator.
