In an interview with Noticias Caracol, Vice President-elect José Manuel Restrepo revealed that the new government will bring allegations of agreements between then-Peace Commissioner Danilo Rueda and the Gulf Clan to freeze military operations against the criminal organization before the United States justice system. Restrepo revealed that a formal request for investigation has already been submitted in Colombia to the judicial authorities, specifically the Attorney General's Office, to investigate these events. "Following this submission, this request for investigation to the Attorney General's Office, we will do the same with international authorities, specifically the United States. We are doing this in the coming days, and simultaneously, the transition team will be closely monitoring the situation to ask the appropriate questions when they meet with their counterparts," stated the Vice President-elect. Restrepo explained the reasons why these allegations are being brought before the United States justice system. "Because deep down, there could be mafia resources behind this. So, this information needs to be presented to those who, among others, have also been involved in drug trafficking. And because this could eventually lead to an investigation into illicit funds, that is, money laundering," he stated. Former High Commissioner for Peace Danilo Rueda promised the Clan del Golfo, Colombia's main criminal organization, to halt authorities' operations against them and carry out a "purge" of police intelligence in 2022, when President Gustavo Petro's administration began, according to an investigation by Noticias Caracol.
