Tenerife's historically most active volcanic ridge extends from Mount Teide to the northwest. Municipalities considered very high and high risk include: Santiago del Teide: This area is directly in the path of the most likely lava flows. Garachico: The town was almost completely destroyed by lava in 1706 and remains in a high-risk zone due to its steep terrain. El Tanque and Guía de Isora: Located in the historically active northwest rift zone. Icod de los Vinos: Considered a high-risk zone, as lava flows can easily reach populated areas, even during a moderate eruption. Moderate-risk zones La Guancha and San Juan de la Rambla: Also at risk due to their location on the northern slope. Puerto de la Cruz and La Orotava: The risk is assessed as moderate. The Orotava Valley has historically experienced eruptions, but they are much less frequent than in the northwest. Relatively Safe Areas South of the Island (Costa Adeje, Los Cristianos, Las Américas): These tourist areas are considered among the safest. The island's geological structure protects the southern coast from the main lava flow paths of Mount Teide. Northeast (Santa Cruz and La Laguna): Although ash can reach these towns under certain wind conditions, the direct threat of lava here is minimal.
