Where is G-d, and why does He allow all this false esotericism? 1. Holiness exists, but it is hidden In Jewish tradition, holiness (kedusha) is not an abstract category. It is a real, active force that fills the world, but is hidden beneath layers of materiality. The Baal Shem Tov taught that every thing, every event, every human movement contains a "spark" of Divine light. Moreover, the Almighty is present in the world, but His presence—the "hidden face" (hester panim)—gives us space for choice. If holiness were revealed to us in its fullness, we would be forced to accept it, just as we are forced to breathe. But Gd desires us to choose it freely. And free choice is only possible when there is an equal alternative. 2. Why Balance? The Concept of Tzimtzum Kabbalah describes the act of creation as Tzimtzum—a "contraction" of Divine light. To create a world with room for the "other" (for creation), the Almighty limited His infinity, leaving an empty space. Our world was placed in this space—with all its laws, contradictions, and struggles. But Tzimtzum didn't just create emptiness. It created a system of counterweights: Light and darkness—darkness is not an independent entity, but merely the absence of light. But it is felt as a real force. Good and evil—evil (qlipah, "shell") is a shell concealing good, but it receives a temporary "license" from God to exist. Truth and falsehood—falsehood exists as a distortion of truth, but without it, we could not truly appreciate truth. This balance is not a war of equals. It is a hierarchy, where good is always primary and evil secondary. But at the level of our perception, they appear as two balanced scales.
