Falling in love, they dated for a year before moving in together and eventually getting married in 2021. Yesi was born with diastrophic dysplasia, which is a very rare type of dwarfism. She told Truly: "Only one in one million people can get it. The main issues are my arms and legs are shorter, and our cartilage and all the joints get degenerate faster." Continuing, she said: "People used to always tell me 'Oh you should only date a little person', At one point even my mom thought that she would rather have me date a little person because she thought an average-sized person would discriminate and treat me badly. And in fact, I’ve never in my life, dated a little person." For Bryan, her height was never an issue: "I thought she was very pretty when I first saw her photo. I knew she was a little person because it was a full-body photo. We decided to meet up for dinner one night, she was very well-spoken and we got along really well," he explained. The couple's huge height difference (Yesi is 2ft 11, Bryan is 5ft 9) often attracts stares and unwanted attention from the public. Bryan explained that: "Someone will walk up to Yesi and maybe just suddenly pat her on the head." While Yesi said: "The main thing I will struggle with is society, and discrimination, going out, people staring, the fact that some people think it’s OK to just come and ask very personal questions or take pictures without even asking. When it comes to us as a couple, I think the one that I have noticed the most, is a few people making the assumption that he’s my caregiver. And I’m like “he’s not my caregiver, he’s my husband,” Yesi said. While Yesi’s family was made up with her relationship with Bryan, his family had some initial reservations. Yesi explained: "His mom was a bit hesitant. She said to Bryan 'Are you sure you want to be with someone that you’re gonna wipe their butt for the rest of your life?'" Maggie, Bryan's mother, spoke of her reasons: "I had a lot of concerns. I never met anybody who was small. The way Bryan put it at the beginning, it was like she was totally dependent. She’s in a wheelchair. And I just let him think about what he was getting himself into." Continuing she said: "He saw it as disapproval, but in reality, it wasn’t about disapproval, it was about a commitment to do what it takes. I’m the type of person that if you’re gonna start something you better do it right." Now she fully accepts the relationship: "When you get to know somebody when you get to like somebody, you don’t see their height. If you bring [Bryan] happiness, and you guys love each other, I’m more than happy."
