Klaus Lang: ionisches licht. (2020)
Klaus Lang (*1971) ionisches licht., for orchestra (2020) SWR Symphonieorchester Titus Engel, conductor World Première Recording, Donaueschinger Musiktage '20 Looking at the arches of Chartres Cathedral, one figure catches the eye that seems slightly out of place among all the sacred personages: Pythagoras tunes his monochord. On entering a room whose entire structure serves the sensual experience of light and colour, one is referred to the abstract beauty of the numbers. Here a basic problem of the entire history of art becomes apparent: How can sensual experience and intellectual conception be reconciled? In a scientific or philosophical text the thought is in the foreground, even if it is supported by a more or less elegant linguistic form, without which it could not exist. Conversely, in music, the sensual experience of tonal forms must be in the foreground. The intellect serves the form of sound – music is not a pedagogical-didactic means of transporting thoughts. It can, if only you let it, provide deep insights and touch our innermost being like nothing else. © Donaueschinger Musiktage '20 #domt20 Official Composer Website https://klang.mur.at/ This video has a purpose of promotion, not for profit.
