South Central Solid Waste Authority(1k Subs Special)-Autocar WX New Way Mammoth Recycling Truck.

First thank you for 1000 subscribers This video I’ve been holding onto for a while while it was originally supposed to be posted in 2022, however, because of editing issues I just got it done now, which is perfect timing because it works great for the thousand subscribers special. This is a 2004 Autocar WX mammoth. This truck was one of the first actual Recycling front loaders that SCSWA purchased it was originally purchased as part of the Las Cruces commercial Recycling program, which was originally just for cardboard. Obviously there’s a lot more recyclable materials and now all of these containers are for mixed single stream Recycling. Back in the day there was a big push for Las Cruces to be one of the first cities to have not only a viable and profitable but convenient and successful Recycling program that put Las Cruces ahead of most cities in the country. This is one of the last examples of what happens when a city actually thinks. Ever since SCSWA started this Recycling program in Las Cruces. It has been incredibly successful. Even from the introduction of rollout cards through Friedman and SCSWA as well as what was at the time MVD and SWD now waste connections Las Cruces created one of the most successful Recycling programs in all of New Mexico and even the country even more innovation continues here with an introduction of a food waste collection program the Recycling program starting 04 continues to live on and it’s still very successful. Now onto this truck, this video was filmed in 2022 and unfortunately, since then this truck has sustained a major power steering problem although this truck is technically not decommissioned. It is in the line of trucks that do head to the landfill to be parked for years and years and years. SCSW keeps these pieces of equipment for the most part but they never really run any routes and this truck unfortunately will probably never run a route again. At the time this truck was running a regular route and continue to run a regular route up until about 2024. As you can hear this truck sounds amazing. We found one of the drivers we know running a newer McNeilus Atlantic this day and he was able to point out where this truck would be we met a super friendly driver Jesee, who is super cool with filming and let us follow him the entire day. This is the entire truck’s route. We even waited outside the transfer station for to unload and then follow it again. For this reason this video is super long, so don’t feel the need to watch the whole video right away. It’s also super entertaining to watch this truck. Pick up the old original square box dumpsters with metal lids. Unfortunately, due to cost SCSWA no longer paints their trucks blue but this is one of the last surviving relics along with a McNeilly Pacific series that are still painted in the original colors. Personally, I’m a big fan of the WX cab and this truck just fits. Perfect I’m even considering maybe trying to purchase this truck when it eventually does go out for auction. This video speaks for itself, and this is a really rare relic of what New Mexico’s waste industry used to look like back in the early 2000s. As a kid visiting Las Cruces before I moved here I remember seeing this truck as a kid. The scrappy page’s website in the back used to be a program that SCSWA to encourage Recycling I do remember hearing the advertisement of it on the radio as a kid that website is no longer owned by SCSWA and I highly recommend not visiting it as it could definitely give you a computer virus.
