NATO Considers Swedish-Canadian Jet For AWACS Role, Moving Away From Boeing

The end of April has brought with it a little bit of confusion as a reported NATO deal to purchase Canadian-Swedish aircraft as airborne early warning platforms was later disputed by Saab. Indeed, it was on April 23rd that various media outlets said that NATO’s Support and Procurement Agency had selected the GlobalEye platform from Sweden’s Saab and Canada’s Bombardier - a move that would have replaced the alliance’s aging fleet of Boeing E-3A Sentry airborne warning and control system aircraft.
