The Tragic Downfall of TLC | What Really Happened?
TLC once looked untouchable. In the span of just a few years, they went from three young women out of Atlanta to arguably the biggest girl group music had ever seen. They had the image, the personalities, the message, and most importantly the hits. “Creep.” “Waterfalls.” “No Scrubs.” Everywhere you looked during the 90s, TLC was there. Millions of records sold, sold out tours, movie appearances, endorsement deals, magazine covers, and enough cultural influence to shape an entire generation of R&B and pop music. At one point, they weren’t just competing with other girl groups. They were competing with everybody. But behind all the success was chaos almost nobody fully understood at the time. While the world saw fame and fortune, TLC was dealing with bad contracts, internal tension, public scandals, health problems, lawsuits, and eventually unimaginable tragedy. Even after becoming one of the best-selling female groups in history, somehow the story still ended with bankruptcy filings, fractured relationships, and a future that never fully recovered after the death of Lisa Lopes. And for these reasons, TLC became one of music’s biggest examples of stunted growth. The Tragic Downfall of TLC | What Really Happened?
