Confessions of a Drug Dealer | Ros Deegan | TEDxPhoenixville

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Drug dealing gets a bad rap. But in this illuminating talk, Ros Deegan highlights why users need to demand more from their dealers by insisting that their money is spent on developing new drugs specific to their needs as well as the drugs that traditional investors in the industry believe are profit-making. TEDxPhoenixville, the first TEDx event in the Philadelphia region, celebrates the creative, innovative and inspiring work happening right here and all around the world. Our objective is to present thought-provoking ideas via an annual day-long event featuring compelling speakers and performers. Our theme for 2014 was Sex, Drugs and Rock and Roll – It’s not what you think! http://www.TEDxPhoenixville.com In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations) Video produced by Bob Sweeney (rlsvideo.com). Camera Operators: Bob Sweeney and Joel Rickenbach After dropping so many test tubes in the labs at Cambridge University that her colleagues relegated her to a desk job, British-born Ros Deegan realized that she needed to marry her love of science with a degree in business administration if she was to have any hope of remaining in the world of medical research. Today, Ros is head of Business Development and Operations at a small biotechnology company in King of Prussia. Ros moonlights as the co-founder of a non-profit that is preparing to harness the potential of crowd-funding with the power of patient advocacy to develop new medicines sidelined by traditional investors and neglected by health-related charities. http://www.beimpatient.org About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.
