Murdaugh Retrial: What a Defense Attorney Sees Coming

The South Carolina Supreme Court overturned Alex Murdaugh’s murder convictions and ordered a new trial. Within days, both sides started signaling what comes next — and it looks nothing like the first time. The defense says they have a strategy for the kennel video. They’re pointing to unknown male DNA under Maggie’s fingernails that was never run through CODIS. They filed a federal lawsuit against Becky Hill that gives them sworn interview and document tools the criminal case doesn’t provide. And Jim Griffin is asking publicly whether Hill acted alone. The prosecution just lost its most powerful weapon. The Supreme Court said twelve and a half hours of financial crimes testimony was excessive and the retrial has to be leaner. No weapon. No confession. No DNA tying Alex to the killings. The circumstantial case has to carry the conviction this time without the emotional devastation of the financial narrative doing the heavy lifting.
