Water is fundamental to life on the planet. All living species need water to maintain their basic functions. Since succulents are living beings, they need water to sustain life. However, they are fantastic because they survive with very little water. They possess an evolutionary process called CAM (Crassulacean Acid Metabolism). Part of their metabolism (the work of making food) is done at night. Only succulents can do this. The thing is, the water has to be just right. Not too little, not too much. Do you know how much water is needed to water your succulents, and how often? Do you know that the substrate and the pot affect water absorption, water retention in the roots, and root rot?
