Farewell. Iconic Mitsubishi Spiral Escalators at the San Francisco Centre Mall.

Installed in 1988, these were the first true spiral (or curved) escalators in the states. Spiral escalators are extremely rare in the states, with less than 10 different known instances of these. These were very well known to elevator/ escalator enthusiasts and to anyone that visits this city. Sadly, it is with heavy heart that we no longer get to experience these icons anymore. I felt so privileged to be living close to an area where I can easily ride one of these. Here is my last ride on 4 escalators. The top 2 were part of Nordstrom, and are boarded off. With these being right in the center of the atrium, you were able to amazing views from different angles while you're riding one. I'm not sure what the fate of these are, but I really hope these will be kept and that one day, we would be able to ride these again. Otherwise with that being said, farewell to these true pieces of work with a heavy heart and long live these first spiral escalator installations :( Escalators I rode in order: 1.
