Equipped with an air-cooled V8 engine made of magnesium alloy and mounted behind the rear axle, it represented a complete break from the conventional way of making luxury sedans of the time, prioritizing the reduction of aerodynamic drag above all other factors. It was a media sensation and a relative commercial success for Tatra after its launch, but World War II would halt its progress, and, remaining on the other side of the Iron Curtain, it would become a distant memory of what Tatra could have been for Western markets, but never was. Today, Tatra manufactures trucks within the European Union, in the Czech Republic.
