One ROM USB - Even more flexible retro ROM replacement
In this video I get my new One ROM USB boards working. One ROM aims to be the most flexible retro ROM replacement, replacing 24 pin ROMS like the 2364, 2332 and 2316 using a $2 microcontroller. Up until now you've needed to use another MCU (for example a $5 Raspberry Pi Pico) to program One ROM. Now, you don't need anything other than One ROM USB, a USB cable, and a PC. I go through the design, firmware modification, troubleshooting and fix process - and give a sneak preview of an upcoming website which programs your USB One ROMs locally. 🛒 *Buy One ROMs* If you'd like your own One ROM, I have a few SWD models (both STM32 and RP2350 versions) for sale at: My online store: https://www.packom.net/product/one-rom/ Ebay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/136488047949 If you aren't based in the UK, you may find it cheaper overall to buy from ebay, if they handle collection of your local sales taxes/duties, even though the prices are slightly higher (to cover ebay's higher fees). This should also smooth customs in your country, and avoid additional fees levied by your postal operator to collect the local taxes/duties you own. Don't feel you need to buy my version of One ROM - I have no problem with you getting them fabbed yourself, or even selling them for profit. 🔗 *Links* One ROM website: https://onerom.org/ One ROM USB Programmer: https://onerom.org/usb/ ⏰ *Timestamps* 00:00 🎬 Introduction 00:10 🌐 Web-based USB programming 00:36 🛒 One ROMs for sale 01:22 📖 Background 02:28 📐 USB Schematic 05:21 🔌 USB PCB layout 09:07 👀 In the flesh 10:08 ⚙️ Entering DFU mode 10:51 💾 USB Firmware 16:23 ⬆️ Flashing firmware 18:27 ⚡ First power on 19:39 ⚠️ Design flaw? 22:20 🔧 Fixing firmware bug 26:57 ✅ Design is good! 28:26 💭 Final thoughts Video content copyright (c) 2025 piers.media Limited.
