Director Eiji Uchida himself has dubbed this film the "Midnight Series" following "Midnight Swan." This shocking human suspense film follows a mother who flees to Tokyo from debt collectors and decides to become a drug dealer to fulfill the dreams of her two children, plunging into a dangerous world. The protagonist, Natsuki Nagashima, is played by popular national actor and actress Keiko Kitagawa. She plays the strong and resilient mother with a never-before-seen expression: a nearly makeup-free, heart-breaking laugh, a rant in Kansai dialect, a bawl, and a dash through the neon-lit streets at night. Tamae Yoshii, a martial artist who acts as bodyguard for Natsuki, played by Kitagawa, and who develops a sisterhood with her, is played by Nozomi Morita, who has garnered attention for her work in Netflix's "Naked Director" series, "City Hunter," and the NHK morning drama "Wings of a Tiger." She co-stars with Snow Man's Sakuma Daiki and popular band SUPER BEAVER's lead singer, Shibuya Ryuta, who makes his acting debut in this film. The cast also includes Kiyohiko Shibukawa, Hiroyuki Ikeuchi, Rena Tanaka, and Ken Mitsuishi, making for a unique and captivating cast that's sure to garner attention. A behind-the-scenes behind-the-scenes video has now been released, offering a glimpse into Shibuya Ryuta's first film appearance! "My name is Shibuya. Nice to meet you," greeted the cast as filming began. "Shibuya Ryuta," the lead singer of popular band SUPER BEAVER, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, greeted them with a polite greeting. In the newly released behind-the-scenes footage, following a greeting from the start of filming, Shibuya, who makes his acting debut as Sato, a leader of the underworld who operates in the nightlife district, is seen looking at the crime scene from a car, lost in thought. The footage shows Shibuya exuding a sharp gaze, ruthlessness, and a bewitching charisma that draws people in, brilliantly playing the boss of the nightlife district. Then, as soon as "Cut!" is called, he bursts into a friendly smile and is shown interacting with the staff, giving a glimpse of Shibuya's known kind personality. When asked about his impressions after the first day, Shibuya seems relieved, saying, "It was my first time on a set like this, so I was nervous about what would happen, but the staff and cast were all so kind to me and made sure I didn't get any more nervous than necessary, so I was grateful that I was able to do it without any excessive tension." Regarding his acting, Shibuya couldn't help but express his confusion, saying, "I really don't know! Both Kitagawa and Morita told me it was 'very natural,' but... I'm not sure!" However, after filming wrapped up, during the wrap-up greetings, Shibuya repeatedly bowed to the cast and staff, saying, "Thank you." He also expressed his gratitude for the bouquet of flowers from the director, saying, "I'm so happy! It was an honor. I'm grateful for all your help." This highlights the strong bond of trust he has built with the cast and staff, even though this is his first time working with Uchida. "Night Flower" is scheduled for release on November 28, 2025.
