From worship leader to atheist - Jessi Cone

Today I spoke with Jessi Cone, who placed her faith in Jesus in her youth but ultimately deconverted as the truth claims of Christianity fell apart. We touched on many topics, including: • Giving her life to Jesus as a teenager. • Enthusiastically sharing her faith as much as possible. • Leading worship at megachurches. • Deconstructing major parts of Christianity, including Paul, the Canon, and the evolution of the Yahweh character. • Moving into the Hebrew Roots movement and becoming Torah Observant as she felt she was moving toward a clearer understanding of the Bible and god. • Isolating herself from others, even other Christians, to be more dedicated and pure. • Starting to see her faith unravel as she realized that Jesus did not fulfill the requirements for a Messiah and that Passover was not a sacrifice for sins. • Seeing that religion at its core is about controlling the masses. • Grieving the loss of her Christian worldview. • Appreciating nature more than ever as she reclaims her life and heals from religious trauma.
