The history of singing bowls and how they are made The manufacture of traditional singing bowls dates back to around 2,400 years ago, about the same time as the Buddha. Since then, the manufacture of singing bowls has been passed down orally from generation to generation in highly structured clan or caste systems in places like India, Nepal and Tibet. Today, artisans in the Kathmandu Valley revive the ancient technique of making singing bowls. The Sakyamuni clan still manufactures singing bowls with healing properties, that is, chanting mantras during the making process. Singing bowls were also made in the Buddha's time. Oral history tells us that the introduction of singing bowls into Tibet from India coincides with the time when Guru Rinpoche introduced Buddhism to Tibet. Therefore, the history of Tibetan singing bowls can be traced back to the eighth century AD. Traditionally, singing bowls are made of alloys of seven sacred metals such as gold, silver, iron, mercury, tin, copper, and lead, which correspond to the seven planets of the solar system and the seven chakras of the human body. In addition, the notes of each singing bowl are tuned to work on individual chakras. In the beginning, the seven sacred metals were melted and mixed together. Then, three or four people work together to beat the large singing bowl, one person uses the blacksmith's pliers to hold the singing bowl, and the other two or three people take turns knocking and reciting the mantra, so that the singing bowl is infused with good thoughts from the manufacturing process. Singing bowls range in size from three inches to fourteen inches in diameter, but also smaller or larger. Quantum mechanics has confirmed that everything vibrates, be it a table, a chair, a person, a planet, or the universe. Furthermore, whenever there is sound, there is vibration. When we combine sound with good thoughts (the most important aspect of therapy), we can channel the vibration of the sound and raise the vibrational frequency in the body. Healing with sound and vibration can reduce stress, improve concentration, lower blood pressure, stimulate the flow of life energy in the body, improve the immune system, harmonize chakras and auras, enhance intuition and perception, harmonize left and right brains, and eliminate mental and emotional Negative energy, stimulate creativity. The human body is made up of up to 70 percent water, so when the singing bowl is struck next to the body, its vibration creates a mandala in the body that has healing and relaxing effects.
