Winter Winds vs My Narrowboat | Solo Boating Struggles

Winter on a narrowboat can look magical — roaring fires, misty mornings and snow-dusted landscapes… but the reality can be very different. This week I’m cruising solo on the Llangollen Canal, racing to beat a lock closure before I get stuck for a month — all while battling relentless winter winds. What should’ve been a simple cruise quickly turns into a fight against strong crosswinds, failed mooring attempts and a very stubborn narrowboat that seemed determined to visit the opposite bank. From diagonal drifting to rope-hauling disasters, this is real winter boating — unfiltered, windswept and slightly chaotic.
