VIDEO 124. The Secret to Luminosity in My Paintings
VIDEO 124. The Secret to Luminosity in My Paintings Hey everyone, welcome to Whole Artist Mastery. I so appreciate reading your comments that you leave behind after videos and some of you actually email me with questions and one of the questions recently was how do you get the luminosity that you get in your paintings so today I will share some of my secrets, show two historical examples of luminous paintings, and show you my techniques. Luminosity in painting is achieved through complementary color pairs (blue/orange, purple/yellow, green/red) placed together so they illuminate each other, creating "color depth." Pairing strong colors with their muted versions (like bright orange beside muted orange) enhances this effect. High value contrast between darks and lights adds depth, though color relationships are most essential. When these opposites interact, they bring light to each other—remove one and the other flattens. Enjoy! Thanks for watching please leave a comment below with any insight or questions you have.
