Small Town Showcase: Ste. Genevieve

Ste. Genevieve is a small river community of about 5,000 people, and is hailed as the first permanent European settlement west of the Mississippi River. Because of this, Ste Gen has major historical significance not just in Missouri, but nationally as well. Almost 300 years later, the town exudes a passion for storytelling and is brimming with rare historic sites, classic small town charm, creative artisans, and exciting events. Their roots run deep, and they are dedicated to documenting, preserving, and sharing all forms of the town’s history. ____________ We are not a flyover state. We are the heart of America. Small Town Showcase, presented by Missouri Humanities, highlights Missouri’s unique small towns and showcases the bigger picture of what Small Town America really is and why it should not be overlooked, overshadowed, or under-appreciated.
