#135: Stories from the Lake to Ocean 100k

We’re back on the trail to talk about this year’s Lake to Ocean 100K! On the chat we’ve got Jenny Lee Allen, the first female finisher and 4th overall with a time of 13:42:00; Brian Leon, who placed 2nd overall in 13:34:00; Shawn Fardink, who finished 12th overall in 17:16:00; and Dave Goldstein, who came in 18th overall with a time of 17:50:00. Dave will also be serving as Race Director for the Just Survive 125 next year, so we’ll get to hear all about that as well. This year’s race felt especially meaningful, and I wanted to take a moment to thank Jeff Stephens and Andrea for their years of dedication as Race Directors of the Lake to Ocean 100K (L2O). Jeff has always been one of the race directors I’ve looked up to. Through their hard work and commitment, they created one of the most rugged and legendary running events Florida has ever seen while preserving the spirit of a true old-school ultra. Although I’ve only made it as far as Beeline and have spent time volunteering and hanging out at the event, L2O remains one of my favorite races of all time. Thank you, Jeff and Andrea, for everything you’ve done for the Florida ultra community and for building such a special race that has left a lasting impact on so many runners. With that also comes some exciting news: Leo Acosta will be taking over as Race Director. For those who may not be familiar with Leo, he is the Race Director of Death at Dupuis and has done a fantastic job stewarding that event. It’s exciting to see what the future holds for the Lake to Ocean 100K under Leo’s leadership, and I have no doubt the race’s tradition and legacy will continue for years to come.
