Gilbert O'Sullivan - Matrimony (Live) • Toppop
Gilbert O'Sullivan (born Raymond Edward O'Sullivan, 1 December 1946) is an Irish singer-songwriter, best known for his early 1970s hits' Nothing Rhymed', "Alone Again (Naturally)", "Clair", "Get Down" and “Matrimony”. He wrote “Matrimony” for his 1971 debut album “Himself”. The song humorously portrays the chaos and everyday worries surrounding a wedding — from being late for the registrar to financial concerns. Its witty, observational lyrics made it one of O’Sullivan’s most recognizable tracks. Interestingly, it was not released as a single in the UK at the time, which limited its chart potential there. Instead, it found major success in continental Europe, where it became a true radio staple and commercial hit, including number 1 in Norway and number 3 in the Netherlands. Only in 1976 was it officially released as a single in the UK, Worldwide he has charted 16 top-40 records, including six No. 1 songs, the first of which was 1970's "Nothing Rhymed". His most successful recording period was between 1970 and 1980. He has received three Ivor Novello Awards, including “Songwriter of the Year” in 1973. This live performance was recorded for the Dutch TV program Grand Gala Du Disque Populaire 1972 on February 24, 1972. Watch our great music videos ❯ https://goo.gl/feVLNN More TopPop?
