Vladimir Konstantinov, May 1, 1996

A brilliant defenseman, Vladimir Konstantinov's NHL career with the Red Wings was cut tragically short because of the limo accident six days after the team's 1997 Stanley Cup celebration. Konstantinov played six seasons with the Red Wings. He finished fourth in voting for the Norris Trophy for his outstanding play during the 1995-96 season. Despite the vote, one could make the argument he was the already best D-man in the league. He finished with a plus-minus mark of +60 that season, the highest since Wayne Gretzky's incredible +70 figure from the 1986-87 season. My story from the dressing room for WXYZ-TV that aired on May 1, 1996.
