South Korea's President Yoon Suk Yeol has used a surprise late-night TV address to declare martial law. He said it was necessary to protect the country from what he called communist forces. Crowds have gathered outside the country's National Assembly in opposition to the president's move. Deputies inside the building passed a resolution calling on President Yoon to reverse his decision. But the military says martial law will stay in place until lifted by the President.
