Civil society organizations in Katanga, supported by several unions, have announced that they have filed a complaint with the International Criminal Court (ICC) against President Félix Tshisekedi and other officials of his regime. According to those who initiated the action, the complaint concerns acts they describe as state crimes and crimes against humanity, allegedly committed between March 2020 and January 2026 in several cities of the Democratic Republic of Congo, including Lubumbashi, Likasi, Kolwezi, Mitwaba, Kasumbalesa, Goma, Matadi, Kinshasa, and other locations. Lawyers Bernard Maingain and Hervé Diakiese have been appointed to represent the plaintiffs. According to the plaintiffs, more than one hundred families of victims have joined the proceedings. They also indicate that the case was filed and registered with the Registry of the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court in The Hague on July 10, 2026.
