IWA - bringing Uttoxeter Canal back to life
IWA Shrewsbury District & North Wales Branch presents "Bringing the Uttoxeter Canal Back to Life". The Uttoxeter Canal opened in 1811 and was closed in 1849. In this illustrated talk, Steve Wood, Chairman of the Caldon & Uttoxeter Canals Trust tells the story of how the canal came about, why it closed after just a short time and how the Trust has been working to bring it back to life. With the support of The Inland Waterways Association, IWA's Waterway Recovery Group and others, numerous structures on this long-lost canal have been uncovered, a bridge fully restored, several sections of towpath improved and the Trust is now making plans for further restoration.
