Ferrari 849 Testarossa: 1050 PS Hybrid am Limit – Assetto Fiorano, Abtrieb & V8‑Sound
From nearly 280 km/h into the first corner: The Ferrari 849 Testarossa wants nothing to do with shoulder pads and mullets – yet it leaves a lasting impression. Ferrari sees it as part of the Testarossa dynasty, but also references the 512S and 512M, recognizable by the side rear spoilers, which are even more pronounced with the Assetto Fiorano package. On the racetrack, the 849 demonstrates the benefits of its revised aerodynamics: up to 415 kg of maximum downforce, 25 kg more than its predecessor with the AF package, distributed 40:60 between the front and rear. Add to that the technology: 1,050 hp system output from an 830 hp four-liter twin-turbo V8 and three electric motors (220 hp). Ferrari quotes 842 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm for the combustion engine. The Manettino shifter goes all the way to "CT off"—a residual level of protection remains, but the slip angles increase with the power delivery. Paddle shifters, downshifting, sound: a tactile and acoustic spectacle. Add to that Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, understeer at the front, and—with a bit of daring on the accelerator—pronounced oversteer. Braking is handled by brake-by-wire, with a clear pressure point and transparency within the ABS intervention range. And off the track? The road-going version with adaptive suspension, front axle lift, adjustable sport seats (heated/ventilated), and Pirelli P Zero R tires feels lively, but the brakes are quite aggressive. Everyday hybrid driving is also possible in electric mode (around 25 km)—but the streetcar-like sound is annoying in electric mode. Solution: let the V8 run continuously.
