The apartment or house is divided into one or more common rooms and bedrooms. This type of rental falls under a legal framework comprised of the law of July 6, 1989, and the ALUR law of 2014. The Macron decree of 2015 also clarified that accommodation occupied by a married or civilly partnered couple cannot be considered shared accommodation. Shared accommodation is highly sought after by students and young professionals. It offers more space than individual rentals in exchange for lower rent.
