The Hoover Dam is a concrete dam located along the Colorado River in the United States, on the border between Arizona and Nevada. It is an arch-gravity dam, with its curvature facing the basin to relieve pressure on the canyon walls. Construction began in 1931 and was officially completed on March 1, 1936. Its 17 turbines are capable of producing 4 billion kWh annually, enough to meet the energy needs of approximately 1,300,000 people in Nevada, Arizona, and California. A total of 3,400,000 m3 of concrete was used for its construction, plus an additional 1,110,000 m3 for other works related to the dam itself.
