Trombone mouthpiece; my personal thoughts
A trombone mouthpiece is called an accessory. Why? I do not know. It is, however, the most personal part of the horn. I don't attempt to be inclusive or to even answer the question that prompted this video of all things mouthpiece but here is an overview of my experiences with the equipment that I've owned, tried and use. Metal, plating, Rim diameter, contour, bite, cup size, cup depth/volume, shoulder, venturi, venturi length, back bore, standard or Morris shank: these are all determined by your personal needs as a player. The design of the horn, the type of music, which chair you sit in, even the performance venue have an effect on which mouthpiece will work best for you. And then there are your teeth and the shape of your lips and head. There are so many variables it is impossible to find an answer. Some of these variables change day to day. Find what is comfortable and allows you to sound the most like you. Never try to purchase equipment to make you sound like someone else: that never goes well over time. I hope this answered something you may have been curious about! Good luck!
