SEAWEED PROCESSING TECHNIQUES TO BECOME NORI | NORI PRODUCTION PROCESS IN A MODERN FACTORY Hello Production Engineering friends! You're probably familiar with these green sheets of dried grass. Yes, this is called nori, a processed dried grass commonly used to wrap sushi or onigiri. Nori on sushi and onigiri not only enhances the flavor, but also serves as a garnish and prevents your hands from sticking when handling. Nori has been used in Japanese cuisine for centuries. Originally used as a food ingredient in Japan during the Heian period, from the 8th to 12th centuries. Besides being used in sushi and onigiri, nori is also commonly found in ramen and miso soup in small pieces. Its presence imparts the distinctive savory flavor of seaweed, which is highly favored in Japanese cuisine. Like other seaweeds, nori also contains minerals such as iodine and iron, making it a healthy addition to the diet. The nori industry in Japan is a vital part of the local economy, as evidenced by the large number of coastal areas involved in nori production and processing.
