Kasumi Dori 霞捕 (1) Takagi Yoshin Ryu Jutaijutsu
The meaning of this technique is to strike Kasumi and capture and control. The points of this technique are first to sit facing your opponent on the toes of both feet. When the opponent comes to grab your lapel with his right hand, hold the lapel beneath where it is grabbed with your left hand, strike to Kasumi with Shuto, grab the hand which has caught your chest and kick to the chest while standing up, then pin. PLEASE NOTE: In this video, my footwork is a bot off, so I have recorded a supplement video to this. Please see Kasumi Dori Takagi Yoshin Ryu 2 Both tori and uke will begin in seiza on the balls of their feet facing each other. The uke will then come up onto their right foot and grab the tori at the lapel with their right hand, with the intention of striking the tori with the other hand. Tori will receive this attack by gripping their lapel just below the uke’s hand and placing their thumb along the uke’s fingers. This receipt of the uke’s attack must be simultaneous. Tori will then come up onto their right foot, to the inside of the uke’s leg and strike with their right hand, with ura shuto to the uke’s right temple (kasumi). Use this strike to push the uke’s head back. Tori will bring striking hand back and grip over uke’s gripping hand as though setting up for ura gyaku. Tori will then stand up onto feet in shizen tai, keeping knees bent. As the tori stands, they will roll the hand over, pressing the uke’s thumb against their chest, cupping the attacking hand with both of theirs. The standing will bring the uke off balance and forward. Tori will kick up into suigetsu. The important point of this technique is that after this kick the placement of the foot is what brings the uke down. Tori will not return to a horse stance, rather return to shizen tai and lower upper body in a bowing manner. The leverage applied to the side of the wrist will cause the uke to comply and go to the ground. Tori must be very careful doing this technique, as it can quickly injure the opponent.
