In 1946, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awarded "The True Glory" its prize for best feature documentary. "The True Glory" chronicled the Allied liberation of Western Europe from the preparations for Operation Overlord to the fall of Berlin, through the voices of ordinary Allied soldiers, sailors, and airmen, men and women, as well as journalists and French civilians.
