However, in 2021, Esteban released a statement that surprised everyone: he had developed amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a progressive degenerative disease. After resigning from his Senate seat, Esteban dedicated himself to raising awareness about his illness and desperately seeks to contribute his part in the fight against it.
